Internet Tide Pool: why Keen is stupid.

Posted by johnwedd on 05 Jan 2009 | Tagged as: blog

The Internet Is Bad For You - The Daily Beast.

He hates that everyone can write an article and be called a journalist. Even if said person went out of there way to research and edit the article to the best of his abilities and resources.

In short, he is a hypocritical elitest. Has he not learned from history that power in the hands of the few corrupt absolutely?

should read some Orwell and Shakespeare, i understand both are freely available in there unedited forms. On the internet.

Logic that he (read: Andrew “I eat babies and stomp kittens” Keen) display’s is similar to those that apposed movable print, television, the written word, and public libraries.

The Wrestler : SEE THIS FUCKING MOVIE!

Posted by johnwedd on 04 Jan 2009 | Tagged as: article, blog

The Wrestler (2008).

The shear immersive realism in this film is damn worthy of award and acclaim. This is film makes me want to find Macho Man Randy Savage, and say, “Thank you for going through hell, so that i could have a hero to look up to”.

the method to which it is filmed, and the stunning performnces given by the actors, both main and supporting role, truely flesh out the story as the gritty; slice-of-life  peice that is destined for cult following.

watch it, buy it.

scarlet spider : a nerd rant

Posted by johnwedd on 29 Dec 2008 | Tagged as: blog, comics, rant

scarlet spider design sheet… by =Fooray on deviantART.

I remember reading the clone saga of spider-man. It was my first comic that introduced complex story telling and , best of all, new takes on the spider-clan as a whole.

The one new and very awesome character was a clone of peter parker known as Ben Reilly(aka, the scarlet spider).

he was so much better than the original in that he:

  • was hella more badass. concentrating on both snarky remarks and big beat downs.
  • had better gear. two words, kinetic webbing. yeah spider-stingers and smoke bombs are all well and good, but fuck, kinetic webbing was freaking genius.
  • Not Emo. back in those days, peter parker was more whiny thanks to the gwen stacy debacle, but at the time, he fucking had mary jane already!!! Ben didn’t have mary jane, he didn’t bitch.
  • he took down venom in his first try. no long cat and mouse. no people held for ransom. he beat him. first time. period.

Now, thats said. I’m going to favorite every single bit of scarlet spider fan art i come across on dA, even creepy slash-fic.

Your Office Suite, a branch off the OO.o tree

Posted by johnwedd on 27 Dec 2008 | Tagged as: blog

Your Office Suite.

i just wanted to spread the word on this branch of the OpenOffice.org project. I found this after reading an article on the main OO.o project being “sick” as far as OS projects go.

I feel guilty now

Posted by johnwedd on 23 Dec 2008 | Tagged as: blog

YourGamer.Net.

i went to the Ubuntu Off-Topic IRC chat room and posted a link to my previous entry, and they listened to my rant.

And they forgave me.

They said they understand, and that zealots give alot of them greif that they have to pick up after with there volunteered time helping those in need of tech-support.

of course, they are the ones who are trying to make linux a user friendly setup.

it was a few statements of a group of  FOSS ASSHOLES! that set me off to begin with.

Ubuntu is nice, we like ubuntu.

I Hate Linux Zealots, a ranting conversation

Posted by johnwedd on 23 Dec 2008 | Tagged as: blog, rant

Windows 7: The Linux killer.

After reading the article linked above, and the subsequent flaming of comments on the evils of Microsoft, something snapped. I was filled with such nerd rage, a friend of mine ended up hearing the following rant. He’s a nice guy, programmer, professional, has forgotten more about computers and how they run than I’ve learned (and forgotten) in my entire life. I’m sorry Matt.

Johnwedd says:
i hate linux users
Matt says:
im a linux user
Matt says:
but one whos smart enough to recognize that windows is awesome too
Johnwedd says:
true
Matt says:
and windows is awesome
Matt says:
straight u[p
Matt says:
its amazing even
Matt says:
even vista
Johnwedd says:
i know, hell its not perfect, but name a fucking linux distro that is
Johnwedd says:
i guess i should rephrase that to i hate linux zeolots
Johnwedd says:
my favorite interface for linux? Webmin
Johnwedd says:
why?
Johnwedd says:
because it’s fucking organized
Johnwedd says:
it makes sense
Johnwedd says:
it works
Johnwedd says:
and i fucking hate bash
Johnwedd says:
yeah, if you learn bash you become somesort of superhuman computer user, but i just want to run my fucking apps!
Johnwedd says:
i don’t want superhuman abilities, i want to do my shit and thats that
Johnwedd says:
I could goto Mac, but i want the option of actually upgradeing, not having to buy a new fucking computer every 3 to 6 months
Johnwedd says:
FOSS assholes only see microsoft as an insult to a near religous belief that computing should be both free and fucking impossible to use without a PhD
Johnwedd says:
Windows is awesome because it meets me in the middle, gives me simple use with option to go deeper if neccessary
Johnwedd says:
the reason Linux isn’t the most widely accepted is because they refuse to do anything remotely similar to MS,
Johnwedd says:
They’re emulating Apple in there design philosophies AND still being stupid about what there end user might need
Johnwedd says:
They assume that each user can recompile there kernal
Johnwedd says:
FUCKING A PEOPLE!!! you like linux because its made for programmers, not users.
Matt says:
hahaha
Johnwedd says:
As a user, i say to the linux zealots and fanboys, shut the fuck up. Better or not, if i can’t use it , its shit to me
Matt says:
exactly
Matt says:
or if it takes an hour to do something that xp takes 30 seconds
Johnwedd says:
thats right, don’t get me wrong XP/Vista aren’t winning awards or garnering any fanboys, but i will say that Microsofts products are at least comprimising, and not fucking stubborn like linux, or fucking nazis like Mac
Johnwedd says:
i feel like ripping into ubuntu chat rooms and going on a tirade
Johnwedd says:
whats really sad? I hope, every day of my life that the linux people do make something worth using, i hate having one option for my position, i’d like a choice
Johnwedd says:
i love OS projects
Johnwedd says:
openoffice, for instance. Is exactly the model they should be working towards
Johnwedd says:
the interface ain’t pretty like MSoffice 09, but its simple and easy to use.
Johnwedd says:
its also familar
Johnwedd says:
easy to pick up, zero learning curve
Johnwedd says:
i know that zero learning curve is to much to ask for in something as involved as an OS, but its as if they think that Linux is an invite only club
Matt says:
lol
Matt says:
i bet you i could tell those fanboys a thing or two about the OS they talk about knowing better than anyone
Johnwedd says:
i know you can
Johnwedd says:
because you know how they are built
Johnwedd says:
and you’re a genius
Johnwedd says:
i understand what an OS does, not in the intimate way you do, but much more so than other users
Matt says:
ya
Matt says:
i understand tha nasties inside that are happening
Matt says:
truth be told money makes for creative minds
Johnwedd says:
indeed
Matt says:
and as good as linux is, its a collaboration of 100 people whos only goal is to appear smarter than the next guy
Matt says:
windows on the other hand
Matt says:
was a collaboration of people being paid to listen to the management
Johnwedd says:
and not idiot management either
Matt says:
its a different paradigm
Matt says:
no not at all
Johnwedd says:
knowledgeable educated management
Matt says:
so MS paid those same types of people to form an engineering team and tackle the same problem from a corporate standpoint
Matt says:
i dunno about you but ill take the venture product first, since something designed to be profitable has alot more checks and balances than something designed as a hobby
Johnwedd says:
not to say that taking the rough work from a hobby is a bad thing
Matt says:
nope
Matt says:
not at all
Matt says:
but in terms of a polished product
Matt says:
i like the structure where management has alot less to do with the implementation
Matt says:
it creates a multi tiered evaluation of the product
Johnwedd says:
right
Johnwedd says:
you can get more methods of solving a single problem
Matt says:
where, if im the management for my own projects, I might not organize them the same way since i know how it all works and I have my own favourite parts of the insides
Johnwedd says:
allowing you to pick the best for the project
Matt says:
so like, I might have written some beautiful code thats useless
Matt says:
but if im management i will keep it
Matt says:
whereas bossman would turf it
Johnwedd says:
brb
Johnwedd says:
You know, if i ever get an obscene amount of money, i’m going to gather together a team of developers from all schools of development, OS and Corp, get a stripped down version of linux then do all i can to make a distro that has focus and guidelines. yes the source will be open to the public, but we will only use the contributions as rough ideas and not complete options
Johnwedd says:
i’d make it geared toward the prebuilt PC’s and notebook/netbook computers so i can state in no mixed terms that My Distrobution works on these computers, period.
Matt says:
ya
Johnwedd says:
id sell support for this distro to the manufactures
Johnwedd says:
training and software support
Johnwedd says:
but i will also keep nothing back from the community
Johnwedd says:
i would let them spin off there own distros if they want
Johnwedd says:
but there will only be one true distro
Johnwedd says:
i would blatantly take good ideas from other distros and refine them to be suitable tools in mine, appling the same philosophy to them as i do my own, i would also give back those changes to the projects but i’d make no apologies for it being someone elses idea
Johnwedd says:
a true comprimise between Corp and OS with the focus being users and not simply being something for professionals, while maintaining the power and stabibility that linux provides
Johnwedd says:
Fuck idealism, if you think all software should be free and open source, teach your grandmother to use bash, then still tell me that the Chapel and Bizarre still holds true
Johnwedd says:
how about an inbetween?
Matt says:
lol
Johnwedd says:
i suddenly miss BeOS
Johnwedd says:
it was OOP, GNU complient, and was smooth as butter to use
Johnwedd says:
i guess i should calm down now
Matt says:
ha

With much apologies to Linus Torvolds and the FOSS group who make sure assholes like me get the software i need. I’m so sorry. Please don’t kill me.
