We’re no strangers to game development, you know the rules and so do I. Sometimes its a pain in the ass to wait for a game you believe, deep in your heart, is going to be good. Some people might have heard or seen videos of Project Offset, the epic FPS in a fantasy setting that the OFFSET team is working on with the support of Intel as their publisher. The game as been in development for quite in a few years, and even without updates the game still had a strong community of dumbasses like Warsaw and myself.

Even though the developers assured us they wouldn’t give us up, never let us down, never gonna run around and … desert us, the forums have been down for a month or two now (if not more, I don’t have an accurate date in mind), the main website as also been suffering from downtimes leading fools like me to believe the site was undergoing an update or refreshment. Unfortunately it pop’d back up with nothing new and the forums still down.

It doesn’t haunt anyone at night but it would be something nice to fix….and its fairly easy to do for devs being under the piles of money that Intel possesses. PLEASE CARE FOR US A LITTLE!

Hello peoples. Sorry that i’ve been busy these past few weeks, i wish i could say that it’ll let up soon but i know it won’t. I have some cool shiny for you.

Yoyogames.com is a site that had acquired the popular Game Maker software rights and have done nicely with the package. the interface is still the same and there is the registered/unregistered gap. But the main draw is the new distribution mechanic they have. If you browse to there site, and download the plug-in. Pick out a game, and just click play and it loads right in your browser. I wouldn’t call it the “youtube of games” so much as it more closely resembles our poor forgotten stage6.com. (may it rest in peace) There are some seriously, high quality gems in there. Of course there are some crappy ones, but thus is the fate of the internet.

If yoyogames is the stage6, then Scratch would most defiantly be the youtube. (only with alot less cussing) It focus’s on children and uses a programming method that looks and feels good, but executes without much pizzazz and functionality. But its real easy to use scratch. fast to. We’re talking 2 minutes for a functional game, out of the box. Like youtube, this means that content is made on a whim rather than a project. I’d say its a good place to cut your teeth and play with ideas and general goofiness. It seams to come off as a super dumbed down version of flash, only written in java and uses a functional language model that looks like actionscript and BASIC had a three-way with LOGO. Not to say it isn’t good, it genuinely fun and teaches kids a bit of coding. But don’t expect to make anything beyond a glorified tiger electronics portable game.

Finals are starting to roll around and i still haven’t finnished all of what i’m supposed to do. Mostly do to my procrastination earlier this quarter; and my bull-headed resistance to doing homework at home. (I prefer to do it at school, you know, where school work belongs.)

But hopefully, it will be all in place at the right time

IE this monday.

i’ve been checking out other Blogs that match my interests, and found one that may be right on topic, even if she only does small; sometimes vague posts. (or even because of it.)

That Girl’s Site has that awesome combo of gaming and anime shiny that i love.

we now return you to your regularly scheduled internets.

Watch the video and squee for your lives. SQUEE!!!!

Ben Heck, is the undisputed lord of console modification. He has done so many in such unique ways that he fully qualifies as Geek/internet God, if he wasn’t considered one already. Whats better, is the fact that he gives step by step instructions on how to do everything. EVERYTHING!

I don’t even play xbox, and i want this so bad!!!

Star Wars reference.  Original, neh?

I’ve got a big post to write, but I don’t have the energy tonight, so lemme toss you a game link.

The Bounce is an extremely simple, short, arcade-y sort of game that I find myself playing over and over again,  thanks to the relaxing tune and the cute graphics.  It’s not gonna win any awards, but it amuses me.
Sorry for the failure of a post, but believe me, tomorrow will be epic.

So, I was going to talk about another game today, but when I checked my email yesterday I saw a message from the Video Game Voters Network. Evidently, a state senator from WI (my home state) thought it would be a good idea to impose an added tax to video games. The proceeds from this would go to moving 17 year olds that have committed nonviolent crimes from the adult court systems to the juvenile category.

Okay, so it may be unfair. Not may, it’s absolutely unfair. I mean, it’s for a good cause, sure, but why single out video games? If the gaming community accepts this sort of thing, it’s paramount to admitting that our hobby is responsible for delinquency. Why not apply the tax to books? Films? Music? The connection is obvious, and the reasoning is absurd.

I contacted my state senator about this, and today I got a reply back to the effect of “Senator X doesn’t support new taxes of any kind.” Which kind of pisses me off. I know he’s a republican and therefore is basically required to vote against most new taxes, but I’m sure that the constituents that write to him regarding the sin taxes on alcohol or tobacco get a better reply. This is what makes me so angry. Gaming is a lifestyle, like it or not. Serious gamers spend a lot of time on there hobby, and it reflects on the way they live. They deserved to be treated as thoughtfully in politics as any other special interest group. Instead, we’re ignored, vilified, and slandered. AND WE DO NOTHING. So this post is a call for all who read it to take action. Join one of the political groups related to gaming (The video game voters network is an excellent way to stay updated). Do something to protect your lifestyle. Gamers are notoriously “easy going” when it comes to politics, and if that remains unchanged, we’re going to see our rights in serious jeopardy.

Oh fine, you want a game? Here, try Sonny, an entertaining combat strategy game with a superb score done by David Orr, a good friend of mine. It’s good for a few hours of fun.

Now i’m a cheap ass and tend to be like that for large amounts of time and getting my freinds pissed at me. But the side effects actually help me out a bit, like having a source of free music thats free to download and enjoy. And thusly, I also have a tendency to lean toward the nerdcore scene.

Nerdcore Rap:

MC Frontalot - the original and supposedly first nerdcore game rhyme master in town. Love him or hate him, he’s had a long time to improve his skills, and it shows.  My favorite is Bizarro Genuis Baby.

YTCracker - this one has a more overal professional  background, (a writeing credit for Xibit , rap group) but he’s all nerd core, and is more wll known for this because of his rap battle with MC Chris.

MC Chris - One of the first geek rappers ever known, mainstream notoriaty for his persona on the animated tv show Aqua Teen Hunger Force. MC PeePants himself. Best tracks include Fett’s Vette (the bad spellah remix is best), OWNZ, (if you can find it, the mario remix kicks ass), and Tractor Beam (very funny).

MC Lars - Not really a geek in rapping terms, but a political type and intelligent. He started an experiment to see if freely downloadable songs can turn a profit in order to disprove the RIAA’s estimates on money loss attributed to MP3 and p2p downloading. very nice, best so far is Download this song. and as the name suggest, is just a google search away from being in your playlist.

welp, thats all i can come up with off the top of my head.
